From a Playroom into a Neutral Nursery

Denver, CO Room Conversion and Nursery Design

Project: When I met the homeowners of this Denver Ranch home, they explained to me that they have a 2nd baby on the way and need another bedroom before the baby is born. They have 2 bedrooms on the main level (one is the primary and one is their daughter’s room) and needed to add one more so both their young children will be on the same level as them.

Neutral Nursery Mood Boards – three different design concepts:

Proposal: From a space planning perspective, the homeowners currently have an open playroom on the main level that we decided made the most sense to close off into a bedroom. They have a large finished basement so there is an opportunity to move the playroom to the basement. From a design perspective, they decided they will move their daughter into the new nursery, but wanted to keep the design neutral. The room already has a full accent wall with beautiful wainscoting so I wanted to make sure we kept that. I proposed three design concepts, each intentionally designed to complement the wainscoting. My clients chose the option where we will wallpaper the ceiling and color drench the wainscoting wall & trim in a color that accents the wallpaper ceiling. We mixed and matched a few pieces from the other proposals and landed on the chosen design below. Within the mock-up design concept, the top right picture is the inspiration photo.

Mock-up of Chosen Design:

A bright interior design layout featuring a botanical ceiling, color-drenched walls, a wooden wardrobe, framed animal art, a crib, a pink armchair, and a floor lamp, accompanied by color swatches.
